Unfortunately, as per previous post, and after reviewing our availability, we remain unable to accept new client referrals. We apologise to those who have been referred to Think and ask that if you have been given a list of possible Psychologists to refer too that you try some others on the list, or return to your referrer (GP/Psychiatrist) for another recommendation. We will once again review our capacity in October.

We are pleased to announce that consultant psychiatrist, Dr Emma Adams will be joining us here at Think Psychology Solutions from Monday 13 July 2020.   Dr Adams will complement our existing psychiatric care provided by Dr Meredith Whiting, Dr Jarrod Holst and extended mental health care provided by Dr Louise Stone (GP).  Dr Adams will work closely with our team of psychologists and clinical psychologists, ensuring the best possible mental health care.  Dr Adams will be starting two days per week, working Monday and Tuesdays.

Dr Adams has considerable experience and expertise working with the full spectrum of mental health disorders presenting across the lifespan.   

Dr Adams is available for assessment, opinion and treatment (not long-term psychotherapy) for adults with general psychiatry needs, especially anxiety, OCD, mood disorders, eating disorders, women’s mental health, sexual psychiatry (including gender and sexuality concerns), ADHD and psychiatric input into medical conditions.  In addition, Dr Adams has a particular interest in PTSD, especially in first responders and is passionate about doctor’s mental health.  

Please note, Dr Adams is a long-term local psychiatrist returning to clinical practice after time spent pursuing other projects.  Unlike her previous practice Dr. Adams will not be undertaking long-term psychotherapy.

Dr Adams will review all referral documentation before accepting a new referral so if calling to make an appointment with Dr. Adams please be prepared to send through your referral documentation.

Due to a recent surge in new referrals, the psychologists at Think PS are unable to take new referrals at present. We believe that if you need to see someone, it needs to be in a timely fashion and we are unable to meet that requirement currently. Please talk with your GP/referrer about other psychologist options for your circumstances. Our capacity will be reviewed in June and we hope to be accepting new referrals for July/August.

Please note our student clinic is still able to take referrals on a limited basis.

Think Psychology Solutions have been operating a clinical psychology Student Clinic from our Deakin rooms this year. From the end of June we be focusing on Older Persons Mental Health. We will have available, a provisionally registered psychologist who is a local clinical psychology student completing their final years of training (6-7th year). Think is committed to supporting the next generation of clinical psychologists in our region and will do this by providing quality, real-world student training opportunities.

For our community, this means access to low cost individual appointments for clients seeking evidence based psychological treatment, with no referral required and no cap on number of sessions. The clinic will accept referrals for clients struggling with anxiety (including OCD), depression (including Bipolar Disorder), adjustment or stress issues, along with single incident trauma.

Please note that our student will be on placement for approximately four months so will not be available for long term treatment.

We are pleased to announce our first student commencing who has been on placement since February will be staying on in the clinic till the end of the year – so we welcome continuing to work with Aflaha (Affie) Khan, a Clinical Psychology PhD student from the ANU. Affie will be available for individual appointments with older adults. She is trained in both Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Please contact our friendly reception staff should you wish to make an appointment in the student clinic. Appointments are available from the end of June 2020 with no waiting list.

During this difficult time with COVID-19, the team at Think want to let our clients know that we are still open as an essential service.

This means that we are still offering face to face appointments for those who are well and can attend the practice.  We are also offering sessions via telehealth (either by a phone consult or video via Zoom/Skype).  You might expect a call from the Think reception staff to confirm whether you would like to attend your appointment in person or opt for a telehealth session.  If you would like to discuss more, please feel free to contact the practice.

If you or a household member is unwell with a cough, cold, sore throat or fever, please do not attend your appointment in person.  Please call reception to advise the practice and discuss alternative options.

It’s certainly a confronting time and understandable if you are feeling worried or uneasy.

We at Think remain open as an essential service conducting face-to-face appointments, telephone appointments and ‘telehealth’ appointments (Skype, Zoom etc). The Australian Psychological Society (APS) has released a ‘Tips for coping with coronavirus anxiety’ and ‘Maintaining your mental health during social isolation’ tip sheets which provides some great education and strategies to help get through this period.

We have had many enquiries and wish to advise that Think Psychology remains open to clients (as at lunch time Monday March 23) as a health service. We are endeavouring to adapt to the changed arrangements with COVID-19 so please bare with us if we are slow to answer the phone.

Clients, if meeting the COVID-19 criteria outlined in the previous post, can undertake appointments over the phone or via telehealth. If a client does not meet the COVID-19/isolation criteria outlined in the previous post but does not wish to come into the Clinic you may still undertake your appointment via phone or telehealth without a medicare rebate. Please contact reception if you wish to discuss.

We will publish more posts/information on this website as/if circumstances change. This is a difficult time for all and we will do our best to maintain treatment and support for our clients and new clients.

A difficult time for all at the moment and we hope our clients and visitors to this website and the Think clinic are remaining well. Think, as a health provider, remains open, however, we are putting in place strategies to mitigate the risk to both staff and clients.


If you have a cough, cold, sore throat and/or fever then DO NOT ATTEND THIS PRACTICE IN PERSON.

Please phone our reception staff for advice and discussion of alternate options available. We understand you are likely to still need your regular mental health support, even if unwell, and we are working to establish alternate options. We will be able to offer clients a telehealth / phone consultation it you are unable to attend the practice in person.

Those who require Telehealth or phone consultations and meet the below categories, will be eligible for Medicare funding. All others requesting this service may pay privately without rebate.

Anyone who:
  1. has been diagnosed with COVID-19 virus but who is not a patient of a hospital; or
  2. has been required to isolate themselves in quarantine in accordance with home isolation guidance issued by Australian Health Protection Principal Committee; or
  3. Is in one of the following groups:
    • Is 70 years or older;
    • Over 50 if of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; or
    • pregnant; or
    • a parent of a child under 12 months; or
    • a person under treatment for chronic health conditions or who are immune-compromised.

People in categories a. and b. are a risk to others and should not attend the practice in person. People in category c. are most at risk from infection and as per Department of Health advise, should avoid all unnecessary outings.

Welcome on board Caitlin! Caitlin Rees will join Think in February 2020 having completed her Masters in Clinical Psychology at the Uni of Canberra in 2017. Caitlin has been, since 2007, a Registered Nurse having worked in various locations such as Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Intensive Care services, Duntroon Health Centre and the Belconnen Mental Health Team (as a Registered Nurse). Caitlin increasingly found herself drawn to working with mental health and Psychology and so undertook the undergraduate and Masters programs required to become a Registered Psychologist.

As a Psychologist Caitlin has practiced at headspace Queanbeyan, the Belconnen Mental Health team and ACT’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health service. She has an excellent ability to build rapport with both children and adults and is available to work with children and their families, as well as individual adults.

Additionally Caitlin has an interest in working with women and their families in the perinatal period (prior to conception, during pregnancy and the first two years of the babies life).

Caitlin is a fully registered Psychologists who is currently undertaking the clinical endorsement program.

With the holiday period fast approaching, all the staff at Think Psychology would like to wish you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Think will be closed the afternoon of Friday December 20 for our Christmas lunch and will close for the Christmas break at lunchtime on Monday December 23rd. We will re-open in the New Year on Wednesday the 8th January 2020, although many staff will take further leave.
